“My primary focus is returning function and improving quality of life for my patients. It is a privilege to work with them on their rehab journey.”
Dr. Perkey serves as medical director for the St. Charles Rehabilitation Department.
Board-certified in brain injury medicine, Dr. Perkey specializes in neuro-rehabilitation, which includes conditions involving the brain and spinal cord such as stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury and multiple sclerosis. As medical director of the inpatient rehabilitation center at St. Charles Bend, Dr. Perkey evaluates patients in the acute care hospital and manages their care while they're in the inpatient rehabilitation center.
Before joining St. Charles, Perkey worked in a similar role at Providence Health & Services in Portland, Oregon, and as a brain injury specialist at WellSpan Health in York, Pennsylvania. Her interest in medicine began at an early age, sparked by a fascination with the connection between the brain and the body. She earned a degree in cell biology and neuroscience and was inspired to pursue a career in medicine by her mother, a nurse in the ICU. Through extensive training, she combined her passion for neuroscience with a deep commitment to patient care.
For Perkey, the most gratifying part of working in neuro-rehabilitation is helping patients regain function. She works closely with a team of nurses, therapists and physician colleagues who are dedicated to guiding patients through their recovery. She joined the St. Charles Center for Orthopedics and Neurosurgery because it offers the most comprehensive orthopedic, neurosurgical and physiatry program in the region and is embedded in the St. Charles inpatient rehabilitation system.
