Dr. Shih is a board-certified general and cardiothoracic surgeon who cares for patients in Bend, Oregon. He completed his medical education at the University of Michigan in 2009, followed by a general surgery residency at the University of Michigan from 2009 to 2016. During his residency, he also completed a two-year research fellowship at the University of Michigan Center for Healthcare Outcomes and Policy and earned a Master of Science in Health Care Research. He went on to complete a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Michigan in 2018.

Dr. Shih is certified by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. His clinical interests include cardiac surgery with a focus on valve and structural heart disease.

Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Shih enjoys ultimate frisbee, skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, running and spending time with his wife and three children.

Dr. Akhtar is a board-certified general surgeon and a fellowship-trained minimally invasive, robotic and bariatric surgeon. Dr. Akhtar attended Arizona State University for undergraduate education, and the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix for his medical school training. He completed his general surgery residency training at the University of Kansas - Wichita, followed by fellowship training at the Texas Medical Center in Houston.

In his free time, Dr. Akhtar enjoys golfing, hiking, traveling and spending time with his family.

Dr. Kjorstad specializes in minimally invasive and robotic approaches to surgery, including bariatrics. Dr. Kjorstad earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of North Dakota. He completed general surgery residency at Madigan Army Medical Center in Ft. Lewis, Wash. Following residency, Dr. Kjorstad stayed on staff at Madigan, which included a deployment to Afghanistan. In Afghanistan, Dr. Kjorstad was awarded a Bronze Star for actions during several mass casualty situations. He has spent the past ten years practicing in Jackson Hole, Wyo., where he was the Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program.
