What to expect before treatment

When you have been approved to begin electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), the information below is designed to help you understand what to expect as you prepare for your first treatment.

  • We will contact you to ask which dates you are available to start treatment.
  • ECT is performed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at St. Charles Redmond. Procedures may begin as early as 7:30 a.m.
  • We will coordinate your preferred dates with the pre‑surgery team and call you to confirm your schedule.
  • We will request prior authorization from your insurance. This process may take up to two weeks.
  • Once insurance is verified and your schedule is confirmed, the pre‑surgery team will call you one time to review your health history, medications, and drug allergies, and to provide instructions related to anesthesia.
  • Patient Access will also call you to pre‑register. Your arrival time may be one to two hours before your procedure.
  • You must have transportation to and from each appointment. If you are insured through PacificSource Community Solutions and need help with transportation, please contact our office.
