Objectives
- Review how the current epidemic of opioid abuse developed.
- Consider current pain management guidelines and how well they are achieving the goal of reducing overdose deaths.
- Discuss the various methods of diversion.
- Recommend techniques to minimize non‐ medicinal medication use.
- Review which socioeconomic groups are at higher risk of non‐medicinal opioid use.
- Review local resources for non-medical pain management.
