Cascades East Transit at St. Charles Bend

St. Charles Health System has partnered with Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council and Cascades East Transit (CET) to address transportation in Bend. The investment in public transit is just one of many ways the health system is working to improve parking at the Bend campus and access to care for patients with limited transportation options.

Bus routes within the city of Bend have been expanded and a bus stop has been added to the St. Charles Bend campus to provide additional access for patients and visitors.

This new bus stop is on Medical Center Drive, just off of Neff Road and across from the St. Charles Immediate Care building.

Hospitalist Services

Always here for you.

Hospitalists are doctors and other licensed medical professionals who will take care of you when you are admitted to the hospital. From the minute you check in until you are discharged home, the hospitalist team will manage your care and coordinate with specialty providers, if needed. They will also keep your primary care provider informed and up-to-date on your condition.

Our hospitalists are available at any time, day or night, to ensure you receive immediate attention and care when needed. They rotate shifts, so you may see different members of the hospitalist team during your stay. Each provider has access to your chart and notes about your care. They will also let your primary care provider know when you have been discharged from the hospital.

Clinical Research for Providers

The St. Charles Research Department endeavors to support Central Oregon providers in their scientific interests, as well as offer patients access to cutting-edge treatments.

The program was formed from St. Charles’ long-standing cancer and heart research programs. The Research Department currently conducts National Cancer Institute, investigator-initiated and pharmaceutical industry-sponsored clinical trials of drugs, devices, vaccines and supportive care therapies.

Providing COPD patients with resources, education and support

St. Charles Pulmonary Rehabilitation — also called pulmonary rehab — helps individuals with COPD manage their disease and improve their quality of life. We combine a range of disciplines to provide our patients with a broad base of education and support. Our pulmonary rehabilitation program also includes a gentle progression in the gym focused on reconditioning the body.

Who is eligible?

We serve individuals with COPD, including emphysema and chronic bronchitis, who meet specific guidelines.

Pulmonary rehab patients receive:

• Help understanding and managing their disease process and enhanced communication with their health care providers.
• Tools for reconditioning muscles to lower oxygen demand and increase endurance.
• Education about the proper use of respiratory medications, airway clearance and breathing techniques that support a life of increased activity.

"As you might imagine, anybody can walk in at any time with preterm labor, so we’re ready to go 24/7. We have dedicated teams that basically jump into action at a moment’s notice. We have ongoing training and simulation to make sure our skills are up to par and up to date and it’s an ongoing practice. This month, St. Charles Health System is submitting an application to have all four of its hospital campuses listed on the Healthcare Equality Index.

The HEI, managed by the Human Rights Campaign, is a national LGTBQ benchmarking tool that evaluates health care facilities’ policies and practices related to the equity and inclusion of their LGTBQ patients, visitors and employees.

For the past few years, St. Charles' Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity workgroup has been working on initiatives that would allow the health system to apply for the 2020 HEI. As an example of this work, St. Charles has confirmed or added “Sexual Orientation” and “Gender Identity and Expression” to its Patient Non-Discrimination, Equal Visitation and Employment Non-Discrimination policies.

Additionally, as a requirement to apply, several members of the system's executive and leadership teams had to complete a three-part training offered by the HEI titled “LGTBQ Patient-Centered Care: An Executive Briefing.” And St. Charles' Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity class has been wildly successful, with around 350 caregivers going through the course over the past year.

Online MyChart

MyChart offers you secure online access to portions of your medical records. You may request additional medical records through your MyChart account. You may access MyChart here.

Please log into your MyChart account, and select the “Request Records” button. Complete the online form to request your records. Only those records for services which occurred on or after April 7, 2018 may be sent to you through MyChart (Note: Billing or Radiology images will not be available through MyChart, but you may request these items by completing an Authorization to Use and Disclose Protected Health Information).

Your records will be released to your MyChart account. Please download or print them for your future use, as they will expire 30 days after they have been released to you.

How to request St. Charles Health System medical or billing records for someone else (3rd party)

Please complete one of the authorization forms to request information, and include documentation which legally supports your right to request records on behalf of the patient. Examples of this documentation include Healthcare Power of Attorney which refers to medical records, Legal Guardianship, Court Order, or a designation of Healthcare Representative in an Advance Directive. Please note: many Durable Power of Attorney documents do not include language which allows a designated person to request medical records on a patient’s behalf.

How to request a birth or death certificate

Even if the patient was born or has passed away at one of the St. Charles Health System hospitals, birth and death certificates are maintained by the state of Oregon. To request a copy of a birth or death certificate, please visit the Oregon Vital Statistics website.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to get my records?

The fee depends on the format of the records, and the number of pages released. St. Charles Health System Release of Information department can provide you with copies of your records in paper or electronic format. There is no charge to release records directly to your MyChart account. There is an additional cost for radiology images on a CD. (Standard copy fees will apply subject to federal and state regulations).

How long will it take to get my records?

Though Federal and State laws allow up to 30 days for processing, our goal is to have your medical records request completed as soon as possible. Once we have completed your request, if there is a fee, our team will either mail you an invoice, or call you to alert you that the records are ready.

If you are asking that your records are sent to a health care provider, it is often faster to ask the provider’s office to request that information be sent directly to them.

How will I receive my records?

If there is a charge for records, you will be mailed a billing invoice. You may either pay over the phone or by mail. We accept credit/debit, cash and checks. 

Once your invoice is paid, we will mail your records to you or you can call 541-706-7784, option 1 to discuss other methods.

How do I request an Amendment to my record?

If you believe there is an error in your medical records, you may request St. Charles Health System review your record, and if approved, an amendment may be made. A request for amendment is not a guarantee of the change, however, you will be contacted regarding the result of the review process.
